Research from Chemical Insights of Underwriters Laboratories to be featured at International Indoor Air 2020 Conference
Dr. Aika Davis and Dr. Qian Zhang, from Chemical Insights, a Research Institute of Underwriters Laboratories, will be presenting on furniture flammability and 3D printing during the International Indoor Air 2020 virtual conference. The 16th annual conference is hosted by the Korean Society for Indoor Environment (KOSIE) and International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ).
Dr. Davis’s pre-recorded oral presentation, “An Evaluation of Flame Retardant Exposure Routes from Upholstered Furniture,” discusses human exposure to specific organophosphate flame retardants, known as OPFRs, and the range of health concerns associated with these flame retardants. Dr. Zhang’s pre-recorded oral presentation, “Particle and Volatile Organic Compound Emissions from 3D Printers and Their Potential Exposure Risks” examines how desktop fused filament fabrication (FFF) 3D printers emissions in indoor air environments can lead to substantial exposure.
Chemical Insights’ global air pollution research conducted jointly with Duke University, Tsinghua University, University of Wisconsin at Madison, and Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar will also be presented.
Christina Norris from Duke University and Collin Brehmer from University of Wisconsin-Madison will be presenting on topics related to personal pollution exposure and impact on health:
- Quantifying Volatile Organic Compounds and their Sources in Residents in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, India, and suburban Shanghai, China (poster presentation); and
- The Influence of Indoor Air Cleaners on the Oxidative Potential and Sources of Metals in Indoor, Outdoor, and Personal Exposure of School Aged Children to PM2.5 in suburban Shanghai, China (oral presentation).
